Level 1 Practice Exercises

Week 2: The Key of G Major

This week we introduce the G Major Scale - which is the basis for the key of G Major. This is the most commonly used key by new (and experienced) guitar players.

These exercises demonstrate how you can play two full octaves of the G scale at the open position. The "high" octave is played on the top (thinnest) three strings (G-B-E). The "low" octave is played on the thicker strings (E-A-D).

Near the end of this week we introduce the 1-4-5 Chords for the key of G.
