Ukulele for Seniors
What is Ukulele for Seniors?
Ukulele for Seniors is a program sponsored by Muzictrain.com designed especially for Seniors groups of up to 20 or so wanting to learn to play the Ukulele. Most groups hold meetings remotely using Zoom or other simple video streaming software while connecting to the Muzictrain Teaching Centre in Conestogo, Ontario.
Muzictrain is a non-profit organization that produces guitar and ukulele lessons for recreational purposes. Community organizations, Seniors groups, school classes, etc. may connect to hold group sessions based on lessons prepared and streamed for new ukulele players.
Muzictrain also produces Guitar Lessons for new guitar players, and PlayAlong Sessions for groups advanced enough and interested in playing along with familiar songs. PlayAlong songs are a feature of all Good Vibrations sessions.
How to organize a Ukulele for Seniors Group
- The first thing you have to do is contact us at Muzictrain. There is a cost, but because we are a non-profit organization, and all of our staff are volunteers, we keep your cost to an absolute minimum. In most cases we will try (along with you) to arrange sponsorship.
- The second thing you have to do is appoint a program coordinator. This person will be the point of contact with Muzictrain, will make sure the proper facilities are made available, and will promote and coordinate the program with prospective participants.
- We will to set up a regular day and time.
- We can provide promotional material for your residents if that is required.
- We will arrange to have ukuleles available for purchase or rent. If possible these will be included in the program cost. Long and McQuade are working with us on this.
- You will need a fairly quiet area of approximately 20' by 16' if you intend to accommodate about 20 people.
- To display the video lessons or live Zoom sessions you will need a computer connected to the internet. You will also need a large format tv screen hooked up to the computer via hdmi. A screen of about 65" is best. If you don't have one, these can be purchased for about $500. Again, we may be able to include this in the program cost.
